(FOR HARD DISK USERS WITH 2 FLOPPY'S)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Formatting disks is a chore that no one likes. You can if you want
order pre-formatted disks, but that costs extra. So what do you do?
You can format a disk each time that you need one, or sit down and
format a whole bunch at a time. I am personally in the second group
that does a whole bunch at a time, and I HATE having to answer the
question "Format Another (Y/N)", pressing the "Y" key, and then having
to press the "Enter" key twice, just to start the process all over
again for the next floppy. This gets to be a pain real fast !!!
There are quite a few utilities out there that formats a floppy in
about 30 seconds, and they work fine except...
1. They format a disk, even with bad sectors in it, and then you lose
data when you write to the disk.
2. They abort if they find one bad sector, and won't format at all.
3. Refuse to work with the 3.5" disks because of the different format.
This handy batch file utility will continuously format disks using
DOS's Format.Com in both "A" and "B" drives, regardless if it is a 5.25
or a 3.5 inch drive or mix of the two. It will alternate between the
two WITHOUT you having to press the "Y" key, and then press the "Enter"
key twice.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Put the batch files in the same directory of your hard disk as
FORMAT.COM (or put a path to it) insert a floppy in each drive and then
type...
AUTOFORM
It will start with "A" drive and format the floppy, and then switch to
"B" drive and format that floppy.
After it does one format on each drive it will display "Strike any key
when ready". If you have inserted new flops to be formatted, just hit
the "Enter" key and it will format the two new floppy's.
If you don't want to format any more floppy's, at the prompt just type
in CTRL-C and you will be returned to DOS.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are like me, I don't want to hit any key at all. What you can do
is use any ASCII word processor, and delete the PAUSE statement from
AFORMAT.BAT file. What this will do is go into a "loop" of formatting
each drive in turn, NEVER having to hit a key, and it will NEVER stop
formatting. The only way out of it is to REBOOT !!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
FINAL STATEMENT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am making this a PUBLIC DOMAIN utility, and request NO money for it,
or do I take any responsibility for its use or mis-use. The only thing
that I ask is that you keep ALL the files together, when passing it on
to a BBS, and if you feel so inclined, drop in and visit my BBS and
leave me a message as to how you like the utility. Good Luck...
